The Two Most Famous

One dry one wet; both too good not to have;
Mixture of fine and thick noodles; just nice for those who treads the middle;
While flat and smooth makes it slippery between the tooth;
Both famous delicacies of this wonderful island called Penang;
Which will explode in your mouth with a bang!

Penang Hokkien Mee. Outsiders call it Har Mee.
Penang Char Koay Teow. People outside Penang has tried very hard to replicate this dish but none as good as the authentic.

Singapore Chilli Crab

Whenever I stopped over Singapore, I'll definitely come to this place, Broadway Food Centre at Sembawang. I've stayed in this area for a year back in 2010 and it always means something to me.

Came here again in 2013 and tried their stir fried chilli crab with salted egg. Although it was not as good as before (maybe chef has since changed) but I still enjoyed it as it is hard to find this type in Penang.

People from the neighbourhood always enjoy coming here for meals or just simply ordered beer and watch the local TV dramas. Very unique and friendly place indeed if you want to feel the atmosphere of Singapore's local culture.

Want to meet the locals? Definitely follow the trail to food!

Stir fried chilli crab with salted egg - yum!
Curry fish head - all time favourite, hard to go wrong.

Miku Japanese Dining

Just a mere 10 minutes walk away from where we live is a row of restaurants and cafes which is just perfect for a day like yesterday when I was too lazy to hop into my car heading somewhere further.

Another good thing about the close proximity is that my little one can ride her scooter which was quite an adventure as far as she is concern.

Nice setting and friendly staff but the menu was a little bit limited in my opinion.

Bean sprout in seasoning is always the best appetizer to warm the tongue up.

Miku Special Ramen with tender succulent pork belly. However the soup was a bit too salty; could only taste the shoyu not the pork.

Sushi and Sashimi Combo - very presentatable but just not enough to fill my tank.

Miku Japanese Dining is located at 298 Blackburn Road, Doncaster East, Victoria, Australia.

Hainan Chicken

Hainan Chicken @ Kingsway, Glen Waverley.

Ipoh Hor Fun with poached chicken.

Went to Hainan Chicken at Glen Waverley after picking up my daughter from her Saturday Chinese class.

Spacious, newly renovated and chic interior gave us good first impression as we enter into this recently opened restaurant. Netizens have been talking about this place for a while before it opened mainly because of its name. Some commented that it is either very good or not so smart that the owner decided to give a very specific name to his shop.

The food was well presented and served on black plates. The rice taste quite authentic although a bit sticky. Roast chicken was good but the poached chicken was just too hard. Maybe the chef wasn't in good mood today?

As my daughter was running around playing with my friend's daughter and nearly bumped into a waitress carrying dishes; the waitress then returned and told off my friend impolitely asking her to look after the kids instead of letting them running around. This incident didn't help our experience of the place when the food was not up to par to start of with.

However, I may still return if I crave for chicken rice in the future.

Summer Garden

Found these photos from many years ago when we had our company lunch at Summer Garden Tanjong Tokong. Not too sure whether the place is still around because rare restaurants like this seldom survive for long in Penang thanks to the demanding Penangites when it comes to what being served on the table.

One of the most striking feature of this place is the owner's love for nature. The restaurant is surrounded by big potted plants with a stunning waterfall on the glass wall.
More plants around the corner!
The owner is also an avid antique collectors. Wonder whether the phone still works?

Claypot noodle with an egg on top.

The all time favourite: fish 'n' chips.
Grille fish with mash potato.
My colleague was having spaggetti.
Chocolate ice cream for dessert.

Salad buffet for those health conscious!

Happy Diner

After picking my daughter up from her Chinese class, we went to nearby Hong Kong restaurant called Happy Diner for a simple Saturday lunch.

Looking around the simple decor of the interior with long sticky notes written in Chinese vertically pasted along the wall, and people conversing in Cantonese, it made you feel like you were in Hong Kong. The notice pasted on the wall next to where we sat informed customers that you had to endure sharing table with others (a typical scene in Hong Kong but very uncommon in Australia).

"Please allow for sharing table during peak hours. Thank you for your cooperation."

I ordered the Yunnan Rice Noodle Soup Set which include a standard drink. You get to choose from fish ball, cuttlefish ball, beef ball, pork chop, pork spare ribs, chicken or vegetarian to go with either a clear or spicy soup based.

Ipoh GP Food Court

Ipoh is famous for many delicious food such as Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken (芽菜鸡) and Ipoh Hor Fun (怡保河粉). But to go to those restaurants which are popular for these dishes is quite challenging because it is too crowded and not much parking spaces available.

So my wife suggested that we go to this new food court in town I agreed instantly because I can have all these yummy food under one same roof!

You can't miss the place with big signage on top of its roof facing main street. The food court is surrounded by rows of shops and landed residential houses.

The interior has high ceiling and the biggest fan I have ever seen to cool you down from the intense heat outside.
If the giant fan and high ceiling is not enough to cool you down, this ice Kopi 'O' certainly will!

The famous Ipoh Hor Fun

Delicious and smooth chicken.

Floating Seafood Paradise

There was one time on our way back from Klang Valley to Penang, we decided to stopped over Tambun which is popular for seafood to have our dinner before heading back to the island.

We tried this particular one which we have never patronize before as it looked promising from the outside with ample parking spaces and presentable entrance.

There were fish ponds lined up along the entrance as we walked into the restaurant. The restaurant was empty with maybe just one table occupied and I thought 'oh no, it must be wrong choice!'. But we were all too tired to drive around and find another place to eat so just decided to bite the bullet and try.

The food in general is below our expectation but oklah, just want to have something before continue our journey home.
