Western Cottage

Along the busy Air Itam Road is this house being converted into a restaurant selling what I would call Asian style Western Food.

Limited parking spaces are available within the front yard of the 'house' with your private valet minus the smart uniform and tips. Yes, parking is free if you manage to get one there is.

Nasi Lemak Burger

Everyone heard of Nasi Lemak before; but have you heard of Nasi Lemak Burger? That's it, it is also my first time see this on any restaurant's menu for the first time today! I thought, are they selling Nasi Lemak with a burger? I was wrong, it is actually a burger with all the ingredients of Nasi Lemak within the two pieces of bun minus the Nasi or rice!

There is crunchy deep fried chicken, anchovies, peanut, egg and cucumber. The chicken in particular is my favourite as I just love fried chicken! Very crunchy and yet juicy!

Since there is no rice at all, shouldn't it be renamed Burger Lemak?

Compare it with the normal Nasi Lemak shown in picture below (also from the same restaurant).

Nasi Lemak Burger can be found at Valencia Cafe, Doncaster East, Melbourne.

Fish & Burger Co

Fish & Burger Co. or F & B Co. in short is arguably the restaurant which has the best burger in Melbourne!

Triple X - as the name suggests; it is big enough to serve 3 people for just $17.50!!!

My all time favourite is the Triple X - 2 x 150g Grass fed brisket patties, 3 x American cheddar, 3 x bacon, lettuce, Spanish onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard & mayo. It is common to hear that chocolate melts in your mouth, but this burger will definitely melt in your mouth! It is so juicy with flavours that you can't seem to have enough of it!

Grilled salt & lemon pepper calamari. Seasoned & tossed through the unique lemon pepper mix. Served with lemon, tartare & two sides.

F & B Co. is located in Doncaster East, Melbourne, Australia.

Summer Garden

Found these photos from many years ago when we had our company lunch at Summer Garden Tanjong Tokong. Not too sure whether the place is still around because rare restaurants like this seldom survive for long in Penang thanks to the demanding Penangites when it comes to what being served on the table.

One of the most striking feature of this place is the owner's love for nature. The restaurant is surrounded by big potted plants with a stunning waterfall on the glass wall.
More plants around the corner!
The owner is also an avid antique collectors. Wonder whether the phone still works?

Claypot noodle with an egg on top.

The all time favourite: fish 'n' chips.
Grille fish with mash potato.
My colleague was having spaggetti.
Chocolate ice cream for dessert.

Salad buffet for those health conscious!

James Foo Western Food

Penang is a very Asian city and is not really steeped in Western tradition despite the fact that it has many remnants of British architecture left behind from the colonial era. However, people of Penang loves Western food, at least the localized version of it. Most of the local kopitiam have a hawker stall selling Western food and usually business are good due to lack of competition as most other stalls are selling local hawker dishes. One particular stall has made it so big that they have upgraded themselves into a full scale restaurant setting and recently even opening up a branch. I'm talking about James Foo Western Food located at Fettes Park, Tanjung Tokong.

This place only open for dinner and don't go there too late as it might be tough to find a table. All sorts of typical Western food can be found there like Chicken Maryland, Chicken Cordon Blue, Steak, Fish and Chips and so on. If you love salmon, then try either the Grilled Salmon Fish Head or Grilled Salmon Fillet. Order a jumbo size fruit juice to go along with your meal that you give you the complete satisfaction for your evening meal.

A branch has been set up early this year at All Seasons Place, Bandar Baru Air Itam, Farlim.

Food Court @ Esplanade

Are you looking for cheap food at one of a kind location? Then you should check out the food court at the Penang Esplanade. Smacked right in between the open space of esplanade and Fort Cornwallis; this place offers variety of Chinese and Malay dishes. This place is very crowded during weekdays' lunch time as many offices, law firms and banks are located in the vicinity. Its environment is very unique because it is situated right in between the two most popular tourist spots in Penang. The food court itself is very interestingly located underneath a huge old trees that shelter the place from the intense heat of the afternoon sun.

Esplanade with the Town Hall and City Hall buildings as its backdrop.

Greeting you at the entrance to the food court is the famous Fort Cornwallis.
The food court underneath the giant tree.
As for the food, my recommendation is Hokkien Char (Hainanese fried egg noodle), Chicken Chop and Fish 'n' Chips. For drinks, you got to try out the Coconut Shake to cool off and refresh yourself on this hot tropical island. It is basically a coconut drink with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream on top. When the ice cream melt and blends in with the coconut drink, the mixture of taste is simply refreshing!

Hokkien Char (Hainanese Fried Egg Noodle and Bee Hoon) - RM4.20
Chicken Chop - RM7.50
Coconut Shake - RM2.50
