Dragon-i 龙的传人 @ Gurney Plaza

Dragon-i restaurant in Gurney Plaza needs no further introduction as it is a popular place for whoever goes to this mall frequently. Located on the ground floor in the new wing, its main seating area is right in the middle of the wall with only low wall surrounding it. Another part of the restaurant with the open kitchen is right next to the main seating separated only by circulation space of the mall. Good place to experience Shanghainese cuisine in Penang. 龙的传人 literally means the descendants of the dragon as the Chinese believe that is what they are.Let's see what the dragon people has to offer:

Main entrance in the middle of the mall.
Main seating area right in the centre of the mall.
More seating area on the other side with the open kitchen, great for people to enjoy while the master chefs doing their work.
Signature dish: Hot Stone Steamed Rice 石锅- steamed rice with chicken, mushrooms & Chinese sausages. (RM16)
Signature dish: Shanghainese Steamed Meat Dumplings 上海小笼包 (RM10.30)
Signature dish: Szechuan "Dan Dan" La Mian in Hot and Sour Soup 四川担担面 (RM13)BEWARE: SPICY!

Annathai Again

I've written about this place called Annathai-Kitchen back in 2012 and found myself revisiting it again this year for two reasons: it is located close to where I live and the food is simply delicious! It is fantastic to know that you don't have to go to Thailand to taste authentic Thai food (especially with the political unrest over there now).

Penang is mostly famous for its local hawker food but there is a substantial Thai community here and that's why you can find many Thai restaurants scattered all over the island and mainland. In fact I just did a quick Google search and that someone has actually documented about 21 must visit Thai restaurants in Penang!

So what did I have the second time I been to Annathai, well mostly similar dishes because they are simply irresistible although I did try something new.

Deep Fried Pork Leg
Gaeng Som Pla - RM36.00
Phat Phak Liang 良 - RM15.00
Phat Setor 豆 Petai Samba - RM25.00
Finally, after all the hot food, how about some 'Fire Fighter' as they nicknamed it - Num Daeng (Red) - RM2.50
