Lanzhou Beef Noodle Bar

Although it is officially summer now in Australia, it is still very chilly here in Melbourne. Some part of the Victorian Alps like Falls Creek and Mount Hotham were even snowing yesterday! That's Melbourne weather for you, 4 seasons in a day!

What's better to do on a cold day like this than having a piping hot noodle soup!

Good food at just A$12.80.

Chef making noodle in front of you! You can choose from different types of noodle. My favourite is the thinnest one.

Hainan Chicken

Hainan Chicken @ Kingsway, Glen Waverley.

Ipoh Hor Fun with poached chicken.

Went to Hainan Chicken at Glen Waverley after picking up my daughter from her Saturday Chinese class.

Spacious, newly renovated and chic interior gave us good first impression as we enter into this recently opened restaurant. Netizens have been talking about this place for a while before it opened mainly because of its name. Some commented that it is either very good or not so smart that the owner decided to give a very specific name to his shop.

The food was well presented and served on black plates. The rice taste quite authentic although a bit sticky. Roast chicken was good but the poached chicken was just too hard. Maybe the chef wasn't in good mood today?

As my daughter was running around playing with my friend's daughter and nearly bumped into a waitress carrying dishes; the waitress then returned and told off my friend impolitely asking her to look after the kids instead of letting them running around. This incident didn't help our experience of the place when the food was not up to par to start of with.

However, I may still return if I crave for chicken rice in the future.

The Grand Tofu @ Glen Waverley

Imagine if you were to be kidnapped in SS2 and blindfolded to be transported elsewhere. When the cloth is unwrapped from your face, you open up your eyes (trying to adjust to the intensity of light after being blindfolded for more than 10 hours); you observe very vaguely your surrounding and you thought you were still in Malaysia. That's how close the ambience is if you happen to be around Glen Waverley in Melbourne.

The street along Kingsway is lined with Asian restaurants and pubs quite similar to what we used to back home. You see people mostly with black hairs on the street, if you are not careful you might forget that you are actually in Australia.

You will be spoilt for choices when you get there as there are just so many delicious food to choose from. One of them is The Grand Tofu. This restaurant has similar concept to Ampang Yong Tau F where you get to choose the assorted tofu from the front counter.

We tried the Fish Head Bee Hoon (which we strongly recommend). As for the Yong Tau Fu, we chose the braised soup base which is not as good as it is quite tasteless. Maybe will try the Tom Yam soup based next time.
