Best BBQ Pork and Roast Pork In Penang

Used to be called Sky Cafe, Wai Kei Cafe in Chulia Street is the only place I would go for roast pork, BBQ pork and roast duck. The BBQ pork is a must try as I can't find anywhere else on the island that can match their standard.

The roast duck is so tender and full of flavour that make you want for more.

The owner insists that he is the only one that do all the chopping of the meat. Until today I still don't understand why he can't train one more person to help to reduce the amount of waiting time.

May Garden Penang

When writing the post 'Happy Father's Day', it reminds me of a place in Penang which was famous for Cantonese roast dishes 燒臘 where I patronized with my colleagues many many years ago.

May Garden is a restaurant located in the prime location of Penang Road right next to the popular Cititel. The restaurant is particularly famous for its roast suckling pig.

May Garden restaurant is very spacious inside which can easily hosts a decent size banquet or wedding dinner.

Happy Father's Day

Like many other major celebrations of the year, we decided to dine out today to celebrate Father's Day. Of course it has to be father's choice so I chose to have roast pork and duck for dinner.

Went to Chin's Noodle House at Leeming Forum for dinner in this stormy, and rainy night. Outside temperature was 11 degrees when we reached there at 5.30pm and the sky was already dark due to winter right now here in Perth, Australia.

In contrast to the cold and windy outdoor, we felt very cosy indeed inside the restaurant. I could hear instrumental music played with mainly Jacky Cheung's songs in the background. The irony was that we were the only Asian among the Aussie customers in the restaurant at that time.

Roast Pork & Roast Duck Combo

The food was great, environment was soothing with beautiful music in the background and the bonus was cut fruits for dessert on the house. 

A great meal doesn't have to be expensive. It is already a blessing as long as you could enjoy a wonderful dinner with your family in a relax atmosphere. 

Roast Pork Rice @ Sky Cafe

Unlike in Hong Kong or major Chinatowns around the world; it is not easy to find roast pork rice in Penang as it is originally a Cantonese dish while the majority of Penangites are Hokkien. However there is one such place in Penang where you can find roast pork and which I proudly say that its taste can rival that of Hong Kong. It is located at Sky Cafe along Chulia Street, the famous backpackers' street of George Town. It only does lunch and opens for business as early as 11.30am. If you go there after 1pm, chances are you might be disappointed as their roast pork may be sold out. 

There is only one hawker stall at this cafe and that saves you a lot of trouble as to what to order. The must try items are roasted pork, char siu and roasted duck. As for the drinks, I recommend lemon juice wit sour plum (you order in Hokkien as lengmong sui)

This is the one place that I never fail to visit whenever I'm in town!
