Kyoto Cafe

Located at Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood, Kyoto Cafe has nice ambience, particularly like the double volume ceiling at the entrance.

京都咖啡厅

Went there on a weekday right before lunch time to beat the crowd. Nice and quiet for reading while waiting for the food to be served.

在咖啡厅看书

Like most Japanese restaurants, the open kitchen concept allows customers to view all the actions of the chefs and cooks. This one is more like openings instead of completely open, the advantage of this is that the smoke from the kitchen doesn't coming through to the dining area.

Counter display at the front providing variety of pastry choices to customers.

Nabeyaki Udon & Salmon Don

Can't really remember where I had this set, it was possibly in one of the Japanese restaurants in either Gurney Plaza or Gurney Paragon.

For RM33 you get a Nabeyaki Udon (tempura prawn & veggies with Udon), Salmon Don (raw Salmon sashimi on rice, a Chawanmushi, appetizer and fruits as dessert.

Miku Japanese Dining

Just a mere 10 minutes walk away from where we live is a row of restaurants and cafes which is just perfect for a day like yesterday when I was too lazy to hop into my car heading somewhere further.

Another good thing about the close proximity is that my little one can ride her scooter which was quite an adventure as far as she is concern.

Nice setting and friendly staff but the menu was a little bit limited in my opinion.

Bean sprout in seasoning is always the best appetizer to warm the tongue up.

Miku Special Ramen with tender succulent pork belly. However the soup was a bit too salty; could only taste the shoyu not the pork.

Sushi and Sashimi Combo - very presentatable but just not enough to fill my tank.

Miku Japanese Dining is located at 298 Blackburn Road, Doncaster East, Victoria, Australia.

Miraku @ G-Hotel

If you love Sashimi then it is always worth your time and money to go for Japanese buffet instead of Ala-Carte. Miraku at G-Hotel is such restaurant that offers good quality food in a traditional Japanese settings.

The location of this restaurant cannot be anymore strategic as it is located right in the most happening place in Penang - Gurney Drive. Miraku is on the first floor of G-Hotel where Gurney Plaza is just a few steps away.

Lunch is split into 2 sessions (this shows how popular it is) and you have to call in to reserve for a table and time of your arrival.

Contact number: 604-229 8702

Note: Buffet lunch only on Saturday, Ala-Carte on other days of the week.

Eagerly waiting outside Miraku's entrance which opens for business at 12pm sharp.
Looking down at G-Hotel main reception lobby while waiting for Miraku's to open for business. G-Hotel has chic interior with minimalist and sleek design elements.
Assorted sashimi - let's the feast begins!

Lunch is split into two session so you won't have the usual craziness and crowd in most buffet lunch.

Hanami Japanese Restaurant

Hanami Restaurant at 685 Beaufort Street Mount Lawley is one of the places that serve authentic Japanese cuisine in Perth. There are just so many Japanese restaurants sprouting out all around the city but most do not offer good quality food as they are not owned by Japanese. Hanami restaurant however is owned by Japanese although they do employ Chinese as waiters and waitresses.

The best part of this restaurant is that you can expect a huge portion for any dish you select from the menu and this is what makes it one of the few places that offer value for money in this expensive city.

Hanami Restaurant front entrance - the business is so good that they have to place extra tables and chairs on the two parking lots in front of their shop.
Japanese Green Tea - Don't you just love their cute little tea pot and cups?

Chicken Katsudon - deep fried chicken wrapped in egg omelet.

I think this is Sashimi Bento, the food is so good that I can't quite remember its name.
Tempura Udon. I don't really fancy for Udon as I have ate a lot of lousy ones in Perth. But this dish in Hanami makes me like this wonderful Japanese noodle soup once again. The noodle is soft and tasty with the hot soup coupled with my favourite assorted tempura.

Jaws Town Hall

It was a maximum of 38 degrees today and we have so far experienced the hottest November month ever recorded in Perth’s history. Summer has definitely come early this year and it could be tough to walk under the hot midday sun to visit some of the heritage buildings around the city. It is the Heritage Week on today and tomorrow and we have first visited the City Farm in East Perth before catching the free Yellow Cat bus to the central city for lunch.

We initially wanted to have noodle in this Japanese restaurant called Nao along the Murray Street but it wasn’t open for lunch. We have seen many people dine in there last night when we walked past the place after the city’s Turning Christmas Light On Ceremony. So we had to changed our plan and go to the nearby newly opened Jaws sushi restaurant opposite the Town Hall.

It was a relieve walking into that outlet with their air-conditioning turned on full blast. I haven’t had that feeling for a long time as we don’t need it during previous colder months. We checked out their menu and found out that it was not costly plus we could hardly walk any further without first filling our stomach under that intense heat.

Being newly opened, it has squeaky clean interior with a wall hung TV broadcasting Japan promotional video. All the staff are Japanese and we were happy to see that because it means they would provide authentic Japanese cuisine. Japanese have always been well known for the dedication and passion they put into preparing their meals.

I couldn’t stop looking at the TV with scenes of Japanese places, people and culture. It made me almost feel like booking air tickets to fly to there instantly. The hot midday sun and my stomach’s craving for food may have caused illusion in my head. Pulling myself back to earth, we ordered two meals: a small Teriyaki Salmon with rice and a Bento Set.

Bento Set

For a price tag of only $6.50, the Teriyaki Salmon was indeed value for money. It’s portion is big enough for my wife. And my Bento Set was simply wonderful with Salmon Sashimi, Tempura Prawn, Deep Fried Chicken, Beef Tataki and Teriyaki Chicken for only $19.50. As we have expected, the food tasted authentic and delicious. The service was superb, the floor manager even gave our 3 year old daughter a chocolate bar for free. We would definitely go there again for their quality food and excellent service. Jaws Town Hall is located right opposite the Perth Town Hall at Hay Street.
