Sungai Pinang Food Court

Right at the intersection of Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway (formerly known as Jelutong Expressway) is the Sungai Pinang Food Court. You can find many Penang delicacies here like all the major local noodles dishes, dim sum, fried oyster, chicken herbal soup and last but not least my personal favourite Ikan Bakar (grilled fish)! The Ikan Bakar stall is right at the main entrance and is named East Coast BBQ; sounds a bit confusing especially when you are in West Coast of Malaysia.

The seafoods at the stall are very fresh from the catch by local fishermen, this is the advantage of living on an island surrounded by sea! It is always fortunate to be able to live in Penang because there is always no shortage of seafood all year round! Last time I always thought that seafood could be found anywhere in the world until I visited China. I went to Shanghai and Suzhou and realized that the menu only have fresh water fish and not fish from the sea. I prefer fish from the sea as they have sweeter taste and less bones. After that trip I started to be more grateful and contented that I am able to have seafood anytime and anywhere I want while in Penang.

If You Crave For Affordable Steak

When you are in Western country, you must definitely try their cuisine because at least they are authentic. I like steak and have asked around for recommendation to check out some good and cheap places as eating out is a luxuriously expensive experience. I was told to check out Hog's Breath Cafe in Northbridge as I work in the city.

It is an American style steak house with decor like Texas registered car number plates in its interior. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. They are so enjoying their work that made me feel like working with them!

The steak is simply fantastic, juicy meat and not too dry with big serving; good for cold winter nights. The major plus point of this joint is its reasonable price.

More On Penang Food In Perth

When you are away from home, you will always have the craving for your hometown dishes. Fortunately there is quite a substantial number of northern Malaysian people migrated and living in Perth. Not sure whether it is related to the current political situation in Malaysia. But anyway some of them set up their own restaurant business and guess what, they do what they know best; offering their hometown cuisine to foreign customers.

This particular restaurants recently opened by a group of Langkawi people offering Malaysian and Penang dishes. I was delighted when I discovered that they have Penang Hokkien Mee and Fish Head Bee Hoon soup!

Breakfast With Dolphin

Located at Mandurah Ocean Marina is the Dolphin Quay; named after these friendly mammals are spotted regularly around the area. I personally saw 3 of them swimming close to the wooden deck of the promenade. Dolphin Quay is a place modeled after the popular Fremantle and Hillary's Sorrento Quay with restaurants, cafes, market stalls and a variety of specialty shops. Although smaller in scale if compare to the other two places mentioned, it is nevertheless a far more pleasant place that offer picturesque view of the marina minus the crowd plus the dolphins!

My personal favorite to dine is the Cafe Moka that offers breakfast, brunch, coffee and home made cakes. This is the place to experience modern Australian cuisine in outdoor dining close to water.

Matilda Bay Tea Rooms

The best ingredient to add on a delicious meal is always the ability to have a great view. Imagine dining on the edge of the majestic Swan River with Perth city skyline as the backdrop.

This humble shop is located right next to University of Western Australia fronting the Swan River. It is not as crowded as the more popular Fremantle but it is exactly the relax atmosphere that I like so much about it. You can still have a descent meal amidst the calming environment that will make anyone's afternoon a memorable one. You can also venture outdoor after your meal and take a stroll along the river bank with your kids playing along the sandy beach. This is indeed a simple way to have a taste of an affordable Australian cuisine and lifestyle!

Hong Kong Cantonese Cuisine In Perth

Perth has always have a substantial population of Hong Kong people for many decades. Australia has welcomed migrants from all over the world to assist in contributing to their economy and high demand in manpower. When these migrants came to Australia, they brought with them their unique cuisines that has help diversify the available choices of dining experience.

Located in the heart of Northbridge (unofficially known as the Perth's Chinatown); Hong Kong Seafood Chinese Restaurant offers a variety of Hong Kong cuisine to its customers. One of their specialty is their roast pork which also contributed to their original business name of Hong Kong BBQ.
