2020 Covid-19 Lockdown Home Cooked Menu

2020 - What a year! We finally did it despite all the unprecedented challenges that faced by all of us during this tough year. Yes, here we are at the last day of 2020. Dine in experience has been removed during 3 quarters of this year due to Covid-19 restriction. Facebook was suddenly swamped with photos of home cooked food from all corners of the world. Everyone suddenly discovered the hidden chef in them. I have experimented a few dishes myself as follow:

Tit Kwang Coffee Shop

Featured by Jason Yeoh (阿贤) on Astro TV, Kedai Kopi (or Coffee Shop) Tit Kwang is located at 1 Jalan Siakap, Taman Bagan Serai, Bagan Serai, Perak, Malaysia; about one hour drive from Penang Island.

The shop occupies the corner lot of a row of shophouses. Parking is available along the street.

The front stall is selling economy rice. The menu is different everyday depends on what the local fishermen catch that morning.

Poster displayed proudly to inform that the premise has been endorsed and recommended by Jason Yeoh.

We arrived around noon that day which is considered late for that place as these are the only Dim Sum left.

All the Dim Sum are hand made in a kitchen located at the back of the shop.

There is also a stall selling variety of noodle.

This is the kitchen at the back where the Dim Sum are made early in the morning everyday.

Best Penang Char Koay Teow In Melbourne

Have tried many places in Melbourne claiming they serve Penang Char Koay Teow. Most don't meet our expectation until Lulu Char Koay Teow came into the picture one year ago. First tried them when they were still in a food court. Now they finally have their own premise in the famous Hardware Lane right in the centre of Melbourne.

We parked our car on the street about 200 Meyers away. As soon as we walked across the street, I picked up a familiar smell coming from the direction we are heading. The fragrantly burnt smell that we all crave for. The smell has already ticked the box even before we start eating it!

Melbourne

It was Christmas Day, most of the shops were closed except Lulu. Long queue started building up when we arrived.

Penang Fried Koay Teow

The width of the noodle is specially ordered by the owner to make its texture as close as the Penang's version as possible. It was served on a banana leaf. Three large prawns on top.

Finished up with a cup of Malaysian coffee, perfect!

龙虾生面

How to Make Crispy Noodle

Heat up cooking oil in the wok. Dip a chopstick into the oil to test its temperature, if you see bubble around the chopstick then the oil is hot enough.

Throw in the egg noodle into the boiling hot oil. Spread it around with a chopstick.
