Valencia Cafe

Trying to find some place special where we've never been before for a Sunday relaxing lunch but all I could gather from the internet were mostly located in Melbourne city centre. Then decided to use my car GPS system to search restaurants nearby and Tender Trap Restaurant came up which is less than 1KM from my house.

Drove there only to find that it is closed on Sunday so went into the other one located along the same row of shopfronts. Nice simple interior with tables almost fully occupied. One of the dish written on the lunch specials board caught my attention; Thai Style Crab Cakes. I always have craving for Thai crab cakes. This is however not a Thai restaurant, the menu served is fusion style; mixture of Asian and Australian cuisine which is quite common in Melbourne due to its cosmopolitan population.

Nabeyaki Udon & Salmon Don

Can't really remember where I had this set, it was possibly in one of the Japanese restaurants in either Gurney Plaza or Gurney Paragon.

For RM33 you get a Nabeyaki Udon (tempura prawn & veggies with Udon), Salmon Don (raw Salmon sashimi on rice, a Chawanmushi, appetizer and fruits as dessert.

New Cathay Wanton Mee

Whenever friends asked where I like to eat when came back to Penang so that they could bring me around, my answer was always the same: anywhere with great hawker food! That's right, I still prefer the cheap and non fancy hawker food than any fine dining in Penang.

One of my favourite place whenever I was in town is the New Cathay Kopitiam at Pulau Tikus. Like many kopitiam (local food court), there are many delicious hawker food to choose from but I always just went for the Wanton Mee as I simply love the way the texture of the noodle felt like; not too soft nor hard.

Sushi Zanmai

There are so many Japanese food available in one shopping mall, here is another good one, Sushi Zanmai in Gurney Plaza.

Sushi Zanmai right next to the escalator at Gurney Plaza.
Kakiage Soba - can choose either Soba, Udon or Ramen with fried prawn and vegetables.
Chawanmushi - steamed egg custard.
